Founder and Director
Emily is currently a sophomore at the Naperville North High School.
She was the 1st-place and 2nd-place winner in the Chinese Instrument Division at the competitions
of the 31st and 32nd Music Festival in Honor of Confucius at Chicago, respectively. Emily performed at the Winners Concert at
the Art Institute of Chicago in 2017.
In addition to Guzheng, She has played piano for over six years and played flute since elementary school.
Emily founded the Guzheng Sound of Wishes Ensemble with the goals to promote cultural diversity in our community and support
Make-A-Wish Illinois so that every eligible child with a critical illness can be the recipient of a wish.
Sophia is currently a 7th grader at the Kennedy Junior High School at Naperville, IL.
She has been learning Guzheng for four years and is an inaugural member of the Sound of Wishes Ensemble at Chicago.
Sophia has performed Guzheng music at various events including the Chinese Fine Arts Society,
the Chinese New Year Celebration of the Garfield Park, and at local libraries.
Besides Guzheng, Sophia also plays piano and clarinet, perform Chinese classic/fold dances, and skate.
Angela is currently a 6th grader at the Keller Reginal Gifted Center for School in Chicago.
She was the 3rd-place winner in the Chinese Instrument Division at the competitions of the 30th Music Festival in Honor of Confucius at Chicago.
She has been learning Guzheng (Chinese Zither) for four years and is an inaugural member of the Sound of Wishes Ensemble at Chicago.
Angela has performed the Chinese zither at different places, including “Global arts Festival" at Bartlett Park, nursing home,
school and charity show. In addition to play Guzheng, Angela is a member of Chicago Children Choir.
She also plays rhythmic gymnastics, volleyball, and soccer.
Daniel is currently in 8th grade at Keller RGC.
He has been playing piano for 6 years. He has passed Level 7 of the ISMTA Achievement in Music Examination.
He is a Tzu Shao volunteer of Tzu Chi Foundation, an international humanitarian organization whose mission is to relieve the suffering of those in need and create a better world.
Some of Daniel’s hobbies are sports and videogames. His favorite sports are soccer, football, hockey, table tennis, and badminton.
He has been playing soccer for 9 years. Daniel also likes art and film. He won first place of the Animal Expressions Young Art Contest in 2012. Daniel has been learning chinese painting for 5 years.
His paintings have won the first and third place awards of the Taiwan Benevolent Association of Chicago.
He has also participated in filmmaking programs at the Beverly Arts Center. Daniel helps with filming and video editing for the SoWE.
Eli Xu is currently a sophomore at Walter Payton College Preparatory High School.
He is a member of the Boys Track Team and Math Team.
He is also a Tzu Shao volunteer for Tzu Chi Foundation, which is an international humanitarian organization whose mission is to relieve the suffering of those in need and create a better world.
Eli learned the Chinese Zither, also known as the guzheng, when he was six years old. He performs at Ray Graham, a home for adults with disabilities, as a member of Tzu Shao.
He is part of Sounds of Wishes Ensemble’s tech crew, in charge of filming and editing video performances, as well as other publicity responsibilities.
